Abstract:
This paper deals with attempts to redesign organizational work practices in order to create gender equity in the workplace without damaging, and indeed enhancing workplace effectiveness. The method is based on surfacing gendered assumptions that are taken for granted, but which deeply affect seemingly gender-neutral practices that disadvantage women. It contrasts approaches that are based on a work-family lens with those more explicitly based on a gender lens.
